Easy Link Remote Access Site - Help Page

Accessing your home directory on the school network using MS Internet Explorer 7

There is a known issue with using EasyLink on any PC which has Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 and Microsoft Office 2000 or earlier. The problem can also occur if Internet Explorer 7 was installed prior to the general public release, and has slightly different symptoms depending on which of these two is the cause; the solution, however, is the same for both.

Office 2000

Problem: The links to My Documents and the Shared Areas do not display the folders on the school computer but the local computer.

Cause: This is caused due to a change in how older versions of Microsoft Office have been created. Newer versions use a utility called WebDAV in the building process which is missing in older versions of Office.

Solution: The WebDAV piece of software must be installed to correct the problem and can be downloaded for free from here or Microsoft Update (update KB892211).

Early Releases of Internet Explorer 7

Problem: In this instance, the Shared Areas appear correctly, however when the My Documents folder is opened, it does not display the folder on the school computer but the local computer.

Cause: Early testing releases of IE7 were not designed for use with web folders, and the necessary software was therefore not included. This was corrected for the public release of IE7, and an update released to provide full web folder functionality was added as a later update.

Solution: In order to correct this problem, it is necessary to install the WebDAV update which can be downloaded from here or Microsoft Update (update KB892211).
