How to apply for a place at GSGW

Secondary Common Application Form (SCAF) and booklets have been delivered to primary schools. Parents will also receive 5 leaflets about Choice advisors who will be there to help parents who need extra support through the process.
Parents must fill in their home authority SCAF and are invited to express their preferences in priority order.
Completed paper SCAFs must be returned to LA by 7th November 2008. Out of borough applicants will need to check with their LA. The SCAF can be returned electronically on line provided parents register on the website.
GSGW requires that a Supplementary Form is also filled out if the school is named on the SCAF to enable the school to apply it’s over subscription criteria (see below for the criteria).
Entry will be through the Kent 11+ Scheme.

Testing Procedures

All applicants are invited to sit the Kent PESE test (Kent’s 11+ Scheme). Multiple choice tests are taken in VR, NVR and Mathematics. The English test is a piece of creative writing.

All students who attend a Kent school (primary and independent) must take the test on the same date, if not at their own school then at a designated testing centre – one of the North West Kent Grammar Schools.
All students who attend an out of county school must take the test at a designated testing centre. (See dates below).
There is a primary headteacher assessment, a confidential process that takes place in October before parents are notified of the decisions. When results are sent out on 20th October, they will simply confirm whether the child has passed the Kent tests or not. Further details will be supplied to the primary headteacher who will be able to give parents the exact scores. Parents will be able to ask their primary school for this information.
Places will be allocated by the Admissions Team. The LA will effectively operate an “Equal preference scheme. The order in which a parent named the schools only matters if more than one of them could offer a place. In that case the original priority order is taken.
Waiting lists for those students who pass the 11+ test but who have not been offered a place at their preferred school will be held by the school from 27th March 2009. There will be no automatic re-allocation of places carried out by the Local Education Authority.
Independent Appeals lodged by 26th March 2009 will be heard during June and July 2009.
