The Grammar School for Girls Wilmington

REME Challenge

Year 10 girls from Wilmington Grammar School had the opportunity to sample Army life recently when a contingent from the REME barracks at Chatham visited the school.

The REME unit brought equipment which had to be used in a series of problem solving activities which related to real engineering situations which might be faced in the Army. Activities included requiring the girls to build a tower and designing and making a crane and pulley system which could be used to lift objects to a required height. In addition the girls also learned about career opportunities in the Army.

The day proved to be a popular break from the normal curriculum. Year 10 student    One student said “The day tested our ability to think on the spot and develop our team work. We had to work under pressure and work with people we would not normally be working with. It was a fun day"
