History

What is AS/A2 HISTORY?

This is a course which balances depth studies with broader themes. It builds on but does not depend on the knowledge, understanding and skills developed at GCSE level.

 

How long is the course?

The full Advanced Level qualification is a two year course which consists of the AS course for one year + A2 course for a further year.

 

What qualifications do I need? 

5 or more GCSEs at grade C and above.  GCSE History at grade B or above (preferably).

 

What will I study? 

You will undertake the following sections of study:

Nazi Germany 1933 - 1945

 

UNIT 2

Foreign Policy (Elizabeth 1st) 1547 1588

 

Unit 3

The Russian Revolution

 

Year 13 Modules (A2)
UNIT 4

Investigation of Oliver Cromwell

 

UNIT 5

Civil Rights in the U.S.A. 1865 - 1989

 

UNIT 6

Personal Study Unit (choice: open book exam or project).

 

What else is involved?

Students taking AS and A-level history will be expected to show a high level of commitment to the subject.

Students will be encouraged to develop individual research skills, to communicate effectively, and to reach balanced judgements.

What other subjects can I study?

Many students combine History with other humanities subjects, like English, Philosophy, Modern Languages but Mathematics the Sciences and Business Studies will complement logical thinking equally well.

 

What career and higher education opportunities are open to me?

History may be seen as a platform for many University courses and diverse careers such as Law, journalism, the Media, Social Welfare, Business Management, Travel and Tourism, the Police.
