What is AS/A2 Biology?
This is a general biology course that is suitable for girls wishing to study biology at higher levels and also suitable for girls who are simply interested in the living world. The course has both theory and practical aspects and is taught in a range of styles.
How long is the course?
The full Advanced Level qualification is a two year course which consists of the AS + A2 courses.
What qualifications do I need?
Five or more GCSEs at grade C and above plus, preferably, at least grade BB in dual award science or a grade B in the biology part of above.
What will I study?
You will undertake the following sections of study:
Year 12 Modules (AS)
Biochemistry
Blood
Breathing
Enzymes and biotechnology
DNA and applied genetics
Year 13 Modules (A2)
Evolution
Mendelian Genetics
Ecology
Animal & Plant Physiology
What else is involved?
A one-week residential field course (Cost approximately £200.00).

What other subjects can I study?
Biology goes well with many subjects, particularly the other sciences, mathematics, geography, textiles, food and physical education. If you want to study Biology at University you must have AS Chemistry.

Opportunities for careers in Biology have never been better. Degrees could include Medicine, Dentistry, the caring professions, Genetics, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Zoology, Botany. The list is almost endless.
