AS and A 2 levels
Curriculum Fine Art (Endorsed AS 8031 and A2 9031)
Students choosing to continue their studies at A level will follow the EDEXCEL Fine Art (endorsed) syllabus. They are issued with a student guide at the beginning of each year, which outlines all course and examination requirements and the marking matrix.
A Level studies require a very conscientious and committed attitude as the emphasis is on independent learning. The key to success is good time management always being prepared and proactive in the learning processes.
Personal study allows for further exploration of current themes, extension of skills, development of ideas and continuation of practical work as well as appreciating the work of other artists. It is essential that A level students make full use of the art studios in study or free periods and after school.
Assessment
Students are encouraged to take a proactive role in their learning and their work is monitored through the School’s assessment for learning policy. They will be given a target grade each term and with guidance devise an individual action plan. All work will be marked against EDEXCEL’s marking matrix.
Each unit of work needs to meet the following assessment objective (AO) criteria
AO1: Record observations, experiences, ideas, information and insights in visual and other forms, appropriate to intentions
AO2: Analyse and evaluate critically sources such as images, objects, artefacts and texts, showing understanding of purposes, meanings and contexts
AO3: Develop ideas through sustained investigations and exploration, selecting and using materials, processes and resources, identifying and interpreting relationships and analysing methods and outcomes
AO4: Present a personal, coherent and informed response, realising intentions, articulating and explaining connections with the work of others
