GCSE Physical Education

Students are able to follow AQA GCSE in Physical Education at GSGW. Students are able to choose the subject through Year 10 & 11 opting into the subject during the Year 9 Option process. 


Unit 1 – 40% of total marks (2 hour paper in Year 11)

Factors Affecting Performance and Participation in Physical Activity

Unit 2 – 60% of total marks (Practical Coursework)

The effective Performance and Analysis of Physical Activities (This includes planning, performing and evaluating a Health Related Fitness programme and the submission of 4 practical activities.)


The written element is subdivided into four sections which are taught over practical and theoretical lessons.

Section A – Health, Fitness and the Factors affecting Performance

Section B – Principles of Training

Section C – Factors Affecting Individual Performance and Participation

Section D – Social and Cultural factors Affecting Participation

At present students submit four practical marks from a variety of activities over the two years. If a student has an external activity supported by the current syllabus then this can be submitted as part of the coursework requirements.
