The Grammar School for Girls Wilmington

Information and Communication Technology

As a Specialist Maths and Computing College, the school boasts a dedicated, well resourced and forward - thinking ICT education for our students. The ICT department is committed to providing learning that is personalised to the needs of each individual.

ICT is studied discretely in Years 7-9, as well as being used in other subjects. In Key Stage 4 all students have the opportunity to achieve a level 2 qualification in ICT. At present this is either GCSE ICT or British Computer Society Level 2. Post 16 there is the opportunity to study ICT at A level. The Oracle database design and programming course is also offered.

The ICT department aims to bring out the best in students through a wide range of extra-curricular activities, for example, girls in the lower school can attend Computer Club for Girls (CC4G) which is run after school (more information on the CC4G section of this website). The school also has its own radio station. The school radio station “GSG Sound” enables girls to develop their journalistic and ICT skills, whilst having fun at the same time.

Students in all years have access to a variety of ICT-based resources to help personalise their learning. Lower school girls use an e-portfolio system which provides individual on-line portfolios of work demonstrating their progress. The school also has its own Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) which enables access to personalised learning resources at both home and school allowing girls both to work independently and continue their learning outside the classroom.

The ICT department is committed to developing and improving the ICT education of all our students, and is constantly innovating and progressing in order to equip our students with the knowledge and skills that they will need for life in the 21st Century.
