Technology Department
Our aims are to:-
Create a supportive learning environment for students, addressing, in particular, their diverse needs and different learning styles. Formative assessment and regular progress reviews play an important part in this process.
Provide focused enrichment opportunities that extend or develop the student’s ability to design.
Follow the national curriculum while giving students the opportunity for extensive study in technology which embraces other areas of the curriculum such as mathematics, science and ICT.
Encourage a style of learning that embraces the imaginative use of technology coupled with proven traditional values.
Enable students to achieve greater independence and maturity through learning activities directed towards self-reliance, confidence and teamwork and to become autonomous and creative problem solvers.
Enable students to combine practical skills with an understanding of aesthetics, social and environmental issues, function and industrial practices.
Students experience technology rich in ICT whilst working with resistant and textile materials and food. They have three periods a week for technology at key stage 3 and are able to follow a comprehensive range of technology courses at GCSE and ‘A’ Level where results achieved far exceed the national expectations for the particular student group.
