Art and Design
Welcome to the Art and Design Department
The Department is an integral part of the school arts community. A sense of belonging is central to its ethos so that students, staff and parents can work in partnership.
The Department aims to develop in all pupils their creative, imaginative, expressive and practical skills through a balanced programme of art, craft and design activities.
It strives to foster a breadth and depth of study with a freedom of choice allowing pupils of differing abilities and interests to develop high levels of personal expression and imagination through the development of personal skills.
The latest technology is utilised and embraced in the Art and Design Department.
Students are encouraged to work independently, to research and develop ideas, feelings and meanings in art and design, leading to a refined personal and expressive final solution.
Pupils work individually, in groups and as a whole class.
Art education is a continuous process and it is hoped that, whatever level the pupils reach, they will have the confidence and enjoyment to continue their own work in the future. Our aspiration is that they will have a greater understanding and appreciation of the work of artists, craftspersons and designers so that they can make informed judgments about the natural and man-made world around them.
