The Grammar School for Girls Wilmington

Target Setting

Target Setting and Action Planning

The school attaches great importance to supporting students and encouraging individuals to achieve their full potential. Student target setting and action planning emphasises the importance of setting sights high.

Students sit Cognitive Abilities Tests during their first term at the school. The results are not given to parents but are used, together with Key Stage 2 results and Entrance Test scores, to provide an indication of an individual’s current attainment in a range of areas against which her progress can be measured. At the end of Year 8 students complete the National Tests in Mathematics and in Year 9 English and Science, together with the school’s internal tests and assessments. These provide the base line for assessing potential and setting challenging but realistic targets for GCSE.

From Year 7 onwards staff work with students and support them in reviewing progress, identifying targets for development and planning how to achieve them.

In Year 12 and Year 13 students work closely with their subject tutors, their form tutors and the Director of Sixth Form to set targets, review progress and develop action plans. They are encouraged to work independently and to aim high in their ambitions for the future.
